ASPIRE Tutoring
COVID-19 UPDATE:
ASPIRE Tutoring is now on hold until further notice.

About:

Brent Council’s document on “Improving Outcomes for Black Caribbean and Black African boys in Brent”, (accessed September 2018), revealed that boys from a black african and carrribean background are found to begin declining in their academics from key stage 2 and by key stage 4 they perform the lowest of all ethnic groups, with only 30% gaining 5 GCSE’s grade A*-C. Against the backdrop of recent knife and gang crime activity, there is fear that this may worsen.

We begun this project in 2015 and run a short self-funded half term classes with just 15 young people who were preparing for their GCSEs. We quickly discovered that they were in need of 1-2-1 tutoring support and continious encouragement to boost self-esteem. These young people have now been able to surpass predicted grades and are attending universities. We believe that a larger scale program will help more young people to also aspire for better futures.

Subjects:

The program will focus on tutoring in the 3 core subjects that is vital for future prospects; Maths, English and Science.

Parental Involvement:

Parents will receive a monthly general newsletter update. Parents can then use the return feedback slip on the newsletter to submit any feedback to us, for our review.
